Jacob's Wheels appeal is on a roll

THE Jacob’s Wheels appeal - to buy a new wheelchair for Pembrokeshire Paralympian Jacob Thomas - is on a roll after it was highlighted in the Western Telegraph.

In just a fortnight, the fund for the hi-tech chair is already over half way towards its £12,000 target.

“The response has been absolutely magnificent,” said one of the fundraising team, Rev Huw George.

“People have been literally stopping us in the street and giving us money. This appeal has reached out to the hearts of many people, and to be able to buy the chair for Jacob will just change his life.”

The youngster, from Bethesda, near Narberth is currently the World Student Games champion in boccia.

He played the sport for Great Britain at the London 2012 Paralympics, and is now bidding to be in the GB team at the Rio 2016 event.

This Saturday, Jacob will be playing a part in a 100-mile, 16 hour fun run being organised by Clynderwen YFC and Blaenconin Chapel, Llandissilio.

The event aims to have 200 participants in relay completing a course between the chapel and Clynderwen starting at midnight on Friday.

Jacob is set to conclude the relay when it ends at 4pm on Clynderwen playing fields where the community’s carnival is taking place.

Everyone is welcome to join the fun run and can claim a relay slot by registering for £10 at Ladd’s and Siop Sarah, Clynderwen and in Llandissilio at Kathy’s or the post office.

*Donations to the Jacob's Wheels fund can be made via the sports team at the Western Telegraph or Radio Pembrokeshire in Narberth.
