Traditional folk-jazz band Ffynnon will be performing at Theatre Gwaun in Fishguard tomorrow (Thursday).

Their Celtic folk music combines the traditional with the innovative and was described as spine-tinglingly exquisite' by BBC Radio Two.

The band describe their music as deeply rooted in the rhythms, language, folk traditions and landscapes of Wales and the Celtic countries.

Ffynnon is fronted by singer Lynne Denman, who will be familiar to many children in Fishguard from her involvement with the land art project, Gardd Gorwelion at Ysgol Bro Gwaun.

Lynne has also worked in primary schools, including Glannau Gwaun, introducing pupils to traditional Pembrokeshire folk songs. Recordings of these songs by Pembrokeshire people had been stored in the museum in St Fagan's for 50 years.

Lynne said: "The children love learning these songs - especially Ceiliog Beti' and the local connections make it even more fun. It was wonderful to be working with Hedydd Hughes, whose great-grandmother was one of the singers recorded for the national folksong archive. It is a real connection to past generations of Pembrokeshire people."

Tickets are £5/£3 from Theatr Gwaun, Seaways Bookshop in Fishguard or by e-mail: fishguardartssociety@yahoo.co.uk.
