On Friday, Span Arts is having a Christmas party at the Queens Hall, Narberth, and it’s going to be a packed night with cabaret, live music, DJs, cocktails and more.

The cabaret will be courtesy of one of the most outrageous performers around, The Art Tart. She’s the fabulous creation of Rose Popay, herself a veteran of Bath’s Natural Theatre Company and a talented artist who has worked for Damien Hirst.

But as The Art Tart, she’s the burlesque queen of the fine art scene, and as well as her own memorable performance she’ll be introducing some special guests, including singer Molara (Zion Train, Baka Beyond) in full cabaret mode singing songs from Edith Piaf and others.

Then the band, Phantom Limb, one of the most highly regarded new bands in the country, will have everyone dancing.

Blending Nashville soul with superb harmony vocals, they’re led by singer Yolanda Quartley, who has been described as one of the finest voices of her generation.

The band’s sound draws on the classic soul sound of singers like Aretha Franklin and Mavis Staples, backed by five exceptional musicians playing a distinctive mix of country, rock and high-voltage gospel funk.

The band has been touring with Will Young this autumn after writing and producing songs for his album and for Massive Attack. On top of all that, they’ve found time to record their debut album, which has been getting sensational reviews.

They’re going to be huge, so catch them while you can.

As well as all this there are the Bobkatz, Manchester’s funkiest female DJ crew, playing a party-rocking mix of soul, funk, ska and more.

Add in some delicious cocktails, extravagant cakes and puddings and candle-lit table seating and you have the makings for the party of the year.

There is a catch, as this premiere party is for Span Arts members only. Membership costs £15 (£10 concessions) for a year, and members get discounts on tickets for Span Arts events.

Doors open at 7.30pm, and the event starts at 8pm and finishes around 12.30am.
