Sex and the City (15)

Ladies: line up the Cosmopolitans, slip off those Manolos (we wish!) and get yourselves comfy in preparation for an evening packed with giggles, girl talk and glamour.

A Box office smash hit as anticipated, Sex And The City — like the series — aims to provide a typical insight into the lives single women living in New York. Typical, that is, aside from the fact that ‘typical’ women probably don’t have money to burn like this lot.

At the beginning of this film, however, the four characters everyone has come to know and love are single no more, and even saucy Samantha (Kim Cattrall) seems to have settled down with her toyboy, Smith (Jason Lewis).

However idealistic their endless luxuries and designer collections might be, the relationship highs and lows, struggles and heartache faced by Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha are real enough for most women.

This next chapter in the gang’s life is sure to have women everywhere in tears of laughter and empathy — sometimes both in the space of just a few seconds.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) has everything going for her now that she has three books under her her belt and a permanent post at Vogue magazine. Big (Chris North) is back in her life as well, but for how long this time?

Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Steve seem like they’ve got family life down to a tee, with little Brady keeping them well occupied, but appearances may be deceiving. Having devoted herself to Smith’s career in Hollywood, Samantha finds herself desperately clinging on to her life back in New York, while Charlotte (Kristin Davis) finally has the family she dreamt of, but are there more surprises in store?

This is a classic chick-flick, bound to enrapture a female audience, even if it’s just because of the eye-opening outfits.

You don’t have to have been a SATC addict previously to enjoy this film but it certainly helps.
