There is a difference

I WOULD like to make an important point regarding the NIMBY allegation made about me by Mike Bridge (Western Telegraph letters, March 13th) with regard to the proposed Civic Amenity Site near New Hedges.

On a point of clarification, what was proposed in the centre of my home village of Johnston was a Materials Reclamation Employment Park where waste from the whole of the county would have been processed on site.

As an alternative I suggested another location for the plant in a valley within the Johnston ward where it would be screened.

What is proposed outside New Hedges – on a site similar to the Johnston alternative – is a state-of-the-art Civic Amenity Site where no waste is processed on site and would only serve the communities local to it.

The two facilities are not the same and, therefore, not comparable.
