I refer to the recent letter in your column from the leader of the Plaid Cymru Group in the County Council.
I agree with him that it is regrettable that, in recent years, many of those elected to the Labour Group have defected to the ruling IPP Group with some awarded with well-remunerative positions in the Cabinet.
Of course Councillors have the right to change their allegiances but, out of respect for electors who voted for them based on their manifestos and party membership, they should act honourably, resign and stand again in a by-election.
Is that too much to expect?
Nevertheless, we need to remind the Plaid Cymru Group that it also had a defection to the ruling group recently and that for many years they have allowed council leaders to choose from within the Plaid Group, who should be given posts of responsibility.
Yet another example of the lack of democracy within the County Council.
It was Nelson who said “It was in honour I gained them”.
