letter from Kate Sherringer for Cardigan and North Pembs Amnesty Group on Tory plans to scrap the Human Rights Act (Western Telegraph, April 29).

When the Prime Minister did a whistle stop tour of Wales last week he did not give clarity on the future of the Human Rights Act and the National Assembly’s role on the issue.

If the government in London wants to scrap the Human Rights Act Plaid Cymru believes the legislative consent of the National Assembly would be required.

The Party of Wales has been resolute in protecting our human rights over a number of years, therefore I’m glad the Welsh Government seems to agree with us.

The difficulty we have in Wales currently unlike Scotland is that I’m not sure we have a government strong enough to stop this erosion of the human rights of the people of Wales.

If the Westminster Government goes ahead with the abolition of the Human Rights Act without the consent of the National Assembly and other devolved Parliaments then it would create a constitutional crisis.
