DAVE Haskell (Letters, 6th Jan) boasts that the wind industry, power companies and government would prefer you to leave his new book about energy on the shelf; they won’t be the only ones, once word gets round.
Here we have a climate change denier calling for huge investment in flood defences; but there’s more to flood prevention than strengthened river banks: what about worldwide sea level rise?
As for Haskell’s electricity generating strategy: he proposes that we buy our electricity from power stations which burn mostly imported gas - at an overall efficiency of less than 40%, when supply chain losses are factored in.
What a massive slap in the face for West Wales, with its cornucopia of natural energy resources.
Our farmers, landowners, and communities want to invest in sustainable energy production; a host of small and medium businesses could hugely benefit from inward investment in renewable generation schemes.
Such schemes could create many job opportunities; and we would see money coming into this area, not leaching away with every invoice tendered by a foreign-owned energy supplier.
