The ever increasing cost of food is making a big hole in our incomes. Supermarket food prices are climbing daily; this is extremely worrying to those on a limited budget. A good way to supplement our budget is growing our own, but lots of people do not have a garden or only a very small garden. We have had our name down for a council allotment for 3 years without success. This is down to having to wait for the limited amount of allotments to become vacant, talk about waiting to step in a dead man’s shoes. The amount of land we have in Pembrokeshire which is suitable for allotment’s, must run into thousands of acres. Surely our council could release some of its unused land, to meet the demand for additional allotments. Beside the health benefits from eating our own locally grown fruit and vegetables, we would all become much fitter, tending to our allotments.
