Well today we finally set out on the maiden voyage from Milford to Neyland along the cycle path. I never realised how unfit I had become after years of being stuck to my armchair surfing the World Wide Web etc. It seemed quite strange riding a bike after all these years, I didn’t fall off, and I must have retained a little knowhow. After a wobbly start and a few wrong gear changes, I slowly got the knack of keeping the bike in one direction. I am sure my wife was hitching a tow, holding on to the back of my bike, on the hills, it felt very hard going (I think I will fit a rear view mirror). After a couple of miles we both dismounted and walked for a while, our legs feeling like jelly, then back on the bikes and off again. Neyland seems to have moved closer to Pembroke Dock, it was a long time before it eventually appeared into view. The return trip was about 10 miles, I searched on the internet when we arrived home, to see what mileage you cycle, when you start cycling, it was 2-3 miles. 10 miles was not too bad, the only aches I suffered, was on my sit bones, which I am assured will subside as the new seat wears in. Look out Germany we are on our way : )
