I am a keen sailor and from this, I know how important it is to be organised. I am not a naturally organised person, ask anyone. Therefore, I have had to come up with a system which helps me to be more organized and after talking to many coaches I came up with routines. Before I go on the water to go sailing I have a routine which I work through from the moment I get to the venue at which I'm going to sail at, until I am back in the car ready to go home. To start with this routine was a bit sketchy, I forgot to do things and was still unorganised. However I did this routine over and over again, until now I do it without thinking, and I no longer forget obvious things, like my sail (not usually anyway!).

In the same way doing things around the house which will reduce your carbon footprint can at first be hard to remember. You might run the bath, and be settling in for a nice, long, relaxing soak when you suddenly remember that you were going to take a shower to save water. Don't punish yourself, just remember next time! After a while your default will be to have a shower. The same with turning lights off when you walk out of a room, and turning appliances off at the switch.
I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful spring weather this year, I took advantage of being able to top up my tan whilst revising in the sun. My Mum was also happy with the sunny weather as we had solar panels installed last summer which link directly to the boiler. Dad used to be so concerned about baths and showers, as the water was heated by oil which was rather expensive. So we have now moved from the dark ages and have our water heated from the sun! No more nagging from dad, no more cold washing up water in the bowl, life is good. We are saving money and we have also reduced our oil consumption by 60 per cent in the summer– now that’s a result!
