A PROMINENT member of the pressure group Save Withybush Action Team (Swat) has resigned.

Maureen Molyneux says Swat must now be far more positive about the future of Withybush Hospital.

Mrs Molyneux, a Neyland Town Council member, said: "Swat has got to work with other organisations and the people of Pembrokeshire in a very positive way, to make sure the changes that are happening are recognised and built upon.

"The Community Health Council (CHC) has done an excellent job in getting the third option accepted by the Local Health Board and any negative actions, or comments will only be counterproductive to the progress already achieved. We must all support the CHC in their work.

"There are going to need to be changes and certain changes Swat will be unable to stop.

"They can't continue to say that all changes are going to be detrimental, and any negative actions or comments will only be counterproductive.

"It has to make more of the positive news like the new MRI scanner and the announcement that the hospital is safe from closure."

But Mrs Molyneux underlined the importance of keeping a watching brief over the situation at the hospital.

She said: "Along with the voice of the people of Pembrokeshire, every political party has been united in the fight to keep Withybush and its services and that situation should be actively encouraged, to enable all our services to be kept local to Pembrokeshire."

She said it would be a nice gesture if some of the £6,500 raised at the recent Swat ball was given to Withybush's children's ward.
