PEMBROKE School pupils are taking everything in their stride this new year.

Students from the school’s Autism Centre have formed a running club hosted by the TriExercise shop at Haverfordwest.

At the first session, shop owners Darren and Julie Evans were on hand with some top tips to give the new runners a head start, and pupils asked plenty of questions too.

Darren and Julie then went through some exercises for warming up and cooling down.

Claire Bullock, head of the school’s autism centre, said the running club had been started to encourage health and fitness, as well as helping with anxiety issues.

“The pupils are loving running,” she added. “The benefits of exercise for helping to alleviate anxiety is well documented and the pupils seem to be benefiting greatly from it.

“Our visit to Tri Exercise was a great opportunity for pupils to have advice and information about their training and keeping healthy.

“We had a great day, the pupils learned a great deal and are all inspired to take part in an event. We hope that some of our pupils will take part in the Sport Relief run at Oakwood.

“Our thanks go to Darren and Julie for a lovely morning and excellent advice.”

Claire is also leading yoga sessions at the school.
