A host of local companies and training providers are due to take part in the Pembrokeshire Jobs Fair today (Monday).

The event is being organised by local MP Simon Hart and takes place in Pembroke Town Hall with the aim of matching up local companies with jobseekers.

Last year’s event saw 350 jobseekers through the doors and resulted in an estimated 10% finding work.

A number of large local organisations, such as Dyfed-Powys Police, the Ministry of Defence, University of Wales Trinity St David and Pembrokeshire County Council, will have stands.

Other big employers who are attending are Oakwood, Folly Farm, Magstim engineering from Whitland, Pembroke Power Station and the St Brides Spa Hotel.

Also on hand to offer advice and help on training and education will be Pembrokeshire College, Workways, New Directions and Want to Work.

Caring organisations including Care in Hand, Shaw Specialist Services as well as Apple Blossoming Cleaning Services, the Western Telegraph and Penfro Group have also signed up.

“It’s hard to say how many jobs will be on offer as some of the firms aren’t hiring immediately but want to take details of those looking for work,” said Mr Hart.

“Other companies such as Oakwood who will be there definitely have posts that need filling.

“We know that the companies who attended last year were impressed by the calibre of employees looking for work. It is free to attend for both employers and jobseekers and if we find just one person a job then it will have been worthwhile.”

The job fair runs from 10am to 1pm.
