PEMBROKE Town Council has passed a vote of no confidence in Pembrokeshire County Council’s ruling Independent Plus Group (IPG), following a heated debate which saw one town councillor resign on the spot.

Cllr Jon Harvey called on members to support him in a vote of no confidence at last night’s (Thursday) meeting.

Monkton county councillor Pearl Llewellyn, an IPG member and long-standing member of Pembroke Town Council, resigned during the discussion and left the meeting.

She was closely followed by St Mary north county councillor Arwyn Williams, who is also an IPG member, an immediate past chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council.

In a lengthy address to council, Cllr Harvey cited “some of the worst” scandals at the council, which included child safeguarding, the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock property grants, the 'unlawful' pension payments row, the leader’s out of date expenses’ claims and the deputy leader’s use of council computers to produce election materials.

“I have been approached by so many people over the last few months who are appalled by the various scandals that have rocked Pembrokeshire County Council,” Cllr Harvey said.

He added: “The leadership has shown itself to be inept, fraudulent and downright dishonest in their running of the council.

“The people of Pembrokeshire and the historic town of Pembroke expect and deserve better and no doubt the ballot box will tell a different tale at the next election.”

But Cllr Llewellyn said his remarks had been “very personal”.

“I find it very, very insulting, I don’t know where you have got your information from,” she said, tendering her resignation “as of now”.

Former IPG senior member Cllr Clive Collins was “very concerned” and moved that the proposal “lays on the table”.

He said: “This council has always been non-political, there have never been any political arguments in here and consequently I do not think we should get involved in this."

He added: “The IPG is not a political party – that’s clear cut.”

Cllr Jonathan Nutting moved a further amendment for council leader Cllr Jamie Adams to be given the opportunity to address town council.

Both amendments fell and Cllr Harvey’s vote of no confidence was passed by seven votes to two with three abstentions.

Clive Collins is away with the fairies IF he believes the IPG is n ot a political party.
I'd also like to remind ppl that those who resigned are paid loads of money to be IPG councillors whilst they get no cash for being Pembrokes town council

One more point - the worm has turned, we the ppl of Pembs will no longer accept the deplorable IPG and their shower of councillors

Good on you Jon. Good to see a local town council showing some balls. Arwyn Williams is cut from the same cloth as Jamie Adams. As a Pembroke born and bred man currently living in Neyland I've been appalled watching his actions as Chairman of PCC. As for Clive Collins.....he's the archetypal dinosaur that we need rid of in local government. I was unfortunate to sit at a table next to him at a restaurant recently, fully adorned with his civic medals on his lapel and some sort of civic chain around his neck, spouting the most mundane drivel, and very loudly. More youthful town and county Councillors is what we need, the likes of Paul Miller and Jacob Williams. Nobody's perfect but these dinosaurs who seem more interested in the civic ceremonies and back slapping than doing the best for the people of Pembrokeshire (despite what drivel they say to the contrary in front of the cameras) are about as much use to us as a chocolate pi$s pot. Arwyn Williams, Clive Collins and Pearl Llewellyn, IPG members past and present are an absolute disgrace. Only in office because the older generation are more inclined to turn out and vote than the young generation otherwise they wouldn't get a look in.

This is what we expect our councillors to do, stand up for the people of Pembrokeshire. If only we had more councillors like Jon Harvey, maybe he could be persuaded to stand for the next county council elections, as we desperately need some new County Councillors with integrity to replace the bad apples we have currently got.

I believe that Pembroke Town Council is confirming what the majority of people in Pembrokeshire feel and that is that we have absolutely no confidence in the ruling IP group who time and time again put their own interests before the people of Pembrokeshire.

However we cannot wait until the next elections of 2017 before we get rid of the bad apples. There are at least 21 councillors who need to be got rid of asap. We have all seen how badly they are letting us down and we cannot afford to let this malarkey go on. So we need all the other Town Councils in Pembrokeshire to do as Pembroke has just done, vote for no confidence in the ruling IP Group. The more voices get heard the more chance we have got of getting rid of these shameless bunch.

I do think people have the right to know what their potential councillors believe it before the election. If they support BPJ and you don't well don't vote for them.

Many thanks to all the contributors who have commented in support of my motion of no confidence. As I said at the start of my report to the Town Council, it gave me no pleasure in putting the motion forward but like many honest people I have spoken with over the last few months I have had enough of the dodgy dealings, fraudulent behaviour and completely un-professional behaviour of the IPPG ruling group. I still regard myself as a young man but maybe with old fashioned principles instilled in me, namely honesty, truthfulness and appointments based on merit not patronage. I will, with like minded folk, continue to probe and comment on what I believe to be wrong in the running of the County Council. The behaviour of those IPPG members who attended the meeting last Thursday was appalling. Pearl Llewellyn throwing her toys out of the pram when confronted with factural truths, Daphe Bush passing notes to the Town Clerk when she is not member of the Town Council and Arwyn Williams (also not a Town Councillor) demanding it be read out. I for one will never take your 30 pieces of silver and will always fight for the people of Pembroke and Pembrokeshire. Jon Harvey.
