BOTH of St Davids’ lifeboats were called into action on Tuesday evening (June 24).

The RNLI all weather and inshore lifeboats launched just after 6.45pm and went to the rescue of two people who had been thrown into the sea after their 16ft sailing boat capsized roughly one mile off Porthclais harbour.

As the volunteer crew made their way to the location, a passenger vessel in the area responded to the mayday request.

The crew of Viking Challenger managed to get the two people on board and took them into Porthclais harbour, where they were met by the local coastguard team. Neither casualty required any medical treatment.

The capsized sailing boat was also towed back to Porthclais and secured to its moorings.

The lifeboat returned to St Justinians just before 8pm.
