A YEAR'S worth of fundraising and awareness support is being given to a south Pembrokeshire-based charity by the Tenby branch of Sainsbury’s.
The Harriet Davis Trust was chosen by the store as its charity for the next 12 months, following customer votes and because ‘it touched the heart of colleagues’, said store manager Michelle Davies. The trust provides four houses in the Tenby area so that disabled children and their families can enjoy respite holidays.
Last year, the store raised £3,634 for Tenby's Friends of the Community, which the charity will be using to buy much-needed equipment. Nationally, the Local Charity scheme has raised over £6million since 2009.
Said Elizabeth Sleight from the Harriet Davis Trust: “We know the success that the local charity partnership has brought to charities in Tenby, so when we received the phone call to tell us the news, we were thrilled.
“We hope the partnership will help raise awareness of our cause to the store’s customers, and will help us develop the important service we provide.”
The store’s team will also be fundraising for the charity by holding sponsored walks, raffles and quizzes, while its PR ambassador, Lorraine Jones, is hoping to encourage colleagues to join her in Tenby’s Boxing Day Swim.
