MILFORD Haven will not lose its police station; Police and Crime Commissioner Chris Salmon assured local councillors during a recent visit to the town.

Mr Salmon met with town councillors to hear their views on the state of policing in the town.

Top of the agenda was the fear that plans to relocate Milford Haven Police Station were actually plans to move it out of the town or close it.

Mr Salmon repeatedly assured councillors this was not the case, and that other sites in the town were currently being looked at.

Pressed on whether the ground floor of the town hall – which would become vacant if plans to move county council services to the town library go ahead – was a likely candidate for the new premises, Mr Salmon said no decisions had yet been made.

He said no decision had yet been made on whether to re-home the local station, but added that the current building needed around £300,000 spending on it over the next ten years – money that could be better spent elsewhere.

While in Milford Haven, Mr Salmon also hosted a three-hour surgery, met with pupils from the secondary school, and talked with staff and friends of charity Milford Youth Matters at Buddies, the Milford Haven Youth Centre cafe.

Mr Salmon said the topics local people wanted to discuss ranged from the future of publicly-funded CCTV to the possible closure of some youth centres, as well as issues such as neighbourhood disputes.

He also met with local campaigner Gareth Bromhall, who is fighting to get a controversial ‘Mosquito’ anti-loitering device removed from outside Milford Haven Library.

“He seemed to genuinely take our concerns seriously,” said Gareth. “It was very positive.”

Mr Salmon is asking where the public would like to see him next year. To let him know, phone 01267 226440, email opcc@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk or tweet @DPOPCC with #YourVoice2015.
