A GROUP of toddlers got their walking boots on recently to raise money for the RNLI.

Cylch Meithrin Croesgoch did a sponsored walk in St Davids on March 27, raising £150 towards the city's new lifeboat station.

The youngsters also took part in a ‘wear your wellies to Cylch day’ on May 1, in response to the RNLI’s ‘give it some welly’ Mayday appeal.

Cylch leader Emma Jenkins said: “Around 20 children and 15 adults toddled around to raise money for the RNLI.

“We walked for an hour, then everyone was invited down to the lifeboat station at St Justinians for a guided tour.

“It was a really lovely day and we raised £150. We’d like to thank everyone who sponsored the children to do the walk.”

Asked why they wanted to raise money for the boathouse appeal, Emma said: “We knew it was really important to St Davids, my husband is part of the lifeboat crew as well, so we thought it would be really nice to put something back into the community.”

Emma and some of the Cylch parents and toddlers presented the fundraising cheque to coxswain Dai John on Tuesday afternoon (May 12).

Dai said: “We thank everyone in Cylch for raising the money for us. It’s another bit in the jigsaw towards raising £150,000 for the new lifeboat station.”

Dai added that constructing the new station had progressed well in recent weeks.

“The columns to support the boathouse itself are all in place and they are working on the floor of the main boathouse,” he said.

“The new access steps and a railway running down to the new station have arrived and they are due to go in next week.”

The new lifeboat station is expected to be complete in around nine months.
