AN animal rescuer from Haverfordwest has shed her beloved locks for a cause close to her heart.

Evette Eardley had her head shaved at the Greenacres Fun Day last month to raise much needed funds for the Talbenny-based animal rescue.

The 34-year-old managed to collect £1,829, which is close to covering an average month’s veterinary bills for the centre.

“Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my hair,” said Evette. “I blow dry it, straighten it and can’t leave the house without it being done.

“On the day I was the last one to see my shaved hair but the words of encouragement from family, friends and supporters really did help me all the way through."

“I did have a shock when I looked in the mirror,” she added, “but I accepted it as it was done for a cause I'm so passionate about.

“I have been shocked by people's generosity and would like to thank everyone who has donated.”

Evette has volunteered for Greenacres for five years, and has fostered more than 60 animals during that time.

She said: “I love it; it's so rewarding to help such beautiful animals to find their forever homes.

“I’m their foster mummy and I have a cry after every single one leaves, as they have all touched my heart.”

The majority of dogs Evette takes in have been saved from the pounds in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, which have a policy to destroy dogs that have stayed beyond seven days. Evette admits that she has failed twice in her fostering duties and has adopted a dog and a cat, and is now the proud owner of three dogs, three cats and two ferrets.
