Haverfordwest County 2.

Caernarfon Town 1.

A poor first half was followed by a lively Blues display in the second, and a late penalty from the Canaries' Layton Maxwell was not enough to cancel out two crisp strikes from Jodie Jenkins.

The visitors took advantage of a wind at their backs in the first half and applied most of the pressure, as Maxwell prompted well in midfield.

At this stage, the Blues were putting very little together. Derek Brazil had sought to solve his side's goal-scoring problem by playing all three of his strikers, but the ball was pumped up to them at quite long range, and there was no Bluebirds' shot on goal until the 32nd minute, when Jack Christopher took a 25-yard dip out of the blue, to see his shot whistle over.

In the meantime, Caernarfon had forced a succession of corners, all well-delivered by Kieron Quinn and James Thomas, but superbly collected by Lee Kendall, who then saved brilliantly from Maxwell's rasping 30-yard free kick, and followed with as good a save from Glyn Peters.

From the start of the second half, the Bluebirds moved up a gear, with Chris O'Sullivan starting to threaten down the right. In the space of four minutes Sully' set up three attacks which were to brighten the complexion of the game. In the 57th minute Christopher headed just over from the winger's corner, before, two minutes later, Tim Hicks headed just wide after a sharp O'Sullivan break.

Then, in the 61st minute Sully's fine deep cross took the faintest of grazes off Christopher's forehead and travelled through to the six-yard line for Jodie Jenkins to slot in. Jenkins completed a brace 13 minutes later when he floated a fine shot over keeper Paul Pritchard for a picture goal.

The Blues could have had as spectacular a third goal just minutes later, when Christopher, running across the Caernarfon penalty area and away to the left, whipped in a first-time right foot shot, which outwitted Pritchard and scraped over the bar.

Sadly, the game spilled over into a lot of ill feeling in the last ten minutes. A 90-minute running spat between Gareth Elliott and Paul Addo ended with a yellow card for the visiting striker.

Then, after Jodie Jenkins had been chopped down (and taken off), Caernarfon's left back Lee Bamber and Derek Brazil had a long exchange of words.

Finally, in the 87th minute, Phil Cattlin appeared to be taken out quite wildly in the centre circle, only for the referee to wave play on and then award a penalty for a challenge on Addo in the area. Maxwell put the spot kick away powerfully, but mercifully it wasn't enough to spoil the Bluebirds' well-deserved fifth home win.
