CONCERNED locals attended a meeting on June 17 to discuss a dangerous junction on the Haverfordwest to Cardigan road.

It was organised by Rosebush resident Jan Fisher, who believes the combination of high speed traffic and limited visibility leaves the New Inn junction on the B4329 an accident waiting to happen.

She said: “Cars travel down the hill at high speeds, giving motorists approaching from the Rosebush and Maenclochog direction little chance of seeing them.

“There have been many accidents and I’m worried that someone is going to be killed there.”

Mrs Fisher’s husband John has had a few near misses at the junction.

He said: “I use the junction on my way to and from work. I have been very lucky so far, but only just. Cars travelling down the main road have frequently swerved around me, and I have had to mount the grass verge to avoid being smashed into.”

Becky Davies is another concerned resident. She said: “I quite often find people coming down the hill so quickly that it is dangerous when taking my child to his swimming lessons – when I have to cross the junction from Rosebush to Fishguard.

The residents of Rosebush and Maenclochog are now planning on writing to the transport department at Pembrokeshire County Council with their concerns.

They would like to see a sleeping policeman at each end of the hill to slow people down, or a cut in the bend to increase visibility from their end of the junction.

Jan Fisher added: “We all need to make cut backs, but it shouldn’t be at the cost of human life.”
