MOTORCYCLE riders were suited and booted in style on the Pembrokeshire roads on Sunday in aid of prostate cancer.

They were taking part in the county’s first-ever Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride which will help Prostate Cancer UK with its research and treatment.

Worldwide, more than 2m dollars has been raised for prostate cancer charities by nearly 37,000 smartly-dressed gentlefolk taking part in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in over 400 locations.

The 12-strong Pembrokeshire contingent and five other fundraisers collected the excellent total of £1,641, and event organiser Steve Dean said: “The day was great fun for a very good cause, and everyone put a lot of effort into their costumes.”

Aboard machines ranging from a 1969 Lambretta scooter to a Triumph and Harley-Davidson, the sartorially-elegant gents left from Saundersfoot on a ride which took in Pembroke, Canaston Bridge, Haverfordwest, Narberth and Wiseman’s Bridge.

Said Steve: “I organised the ride because, like so many people, cancer has touched the lives of people I know and my family, and this particular type of cancer could be detected at at an early stage if more men were aware and got themselves medically checked.

“We will be making this an annual event for Pembrokeshire, and hopefully next year we’ll be putting a lot more on and helping to raise even more money and awareness.”
