POLICE are investigating after a cat was fatally wounded by an air gun in a north Pembrokeshire village.

The tabby female was found injured in Puncheston on Tuesday, November 10 and was taken to Fenton Vets in Haverfordwest.

Lisa Phillips is a vet and a director at the practice, with a special interest in cats.

She said: “This beautiful cat had been deliberately shot in the spine by an airgun pellet and had to be put down because her injuries were so severe.

“How anyone could be cruel is beyond me.”

She explained that the cat did not have a specific owner, but was a village stray which was looked after by several homes.

Lisa added: “This is the second cat killed in this way in the village this month, so it was not an isolated incident.”

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed they are looking into the shooting.

A force spokesman said: “We received a report of a cat that had been shot with an air gun in Puncheston. The incident happened sometime between 4-5pm on Tuesday, November 10.

“Due to the injuries the cat had to be put down.

“Police are asking anyone with information or if they see anything suspicious to call them on 101.”
