THE mayor of Haverfordwest, Councillor Sue Murray has linked up with two Haverfordwest businesses to offer a unique helping hand to those less fortunate this winter.

From today (Christmas Eve), Costa Coffee and Subway have joined with Councillor Sue Murray, with the baking of Pembrokeshire County Council Chairman Cllr Wynne Evans, to run a suspended coffee scheme.

A suspended coffee is a simple idea in which instead of buying just one cup of coffee, you buy two or more. One coffee is for yourself and one for someone in need. The barista hands you your coffee, then logs the second as 'suspended'.

Mayor Sue Murray spoke to the Western Telegraph and said: "Christmas is the season of goodwill, and this scheme will allow people to help those who are in need of hot drink.

"I must thank the two businesses for taking part in the scheme and to Chris Ward, owner of the Haverfordwest and Milford Haven Subway stores, who will be kindly donating five suspended coffees a day."

County Council Chairman Cllr Wynne Evans said: "This is a marvellous idea and am very impressed that two businesses have come forward to support the scheme.

"Next Christmas, I hope other businesses across the county can take part in this scheme, which is so simple and effective and can help spread some Christmas cheer."
