AN OAR-SOME event featuring fun and fundraising is getting ready to roar in Pembrokeshire.

The Welsh Dragonboat Championships will be returning to the county for the third year over the Whitsun bank holiday weekend.

The first two years has seen the event - organised by Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club - raise over £20,000 for charities in Pembrokeshire and Wales.

And it has now firmly established itself in the county’s calendar of annual events.

Llys y Fran Country Park will once again be the venue on May 29 for the championships, which sees teams of 17 participants - including a ceremonial drummer - entering dragon boat races on the 212-acre reservoir.

This year’s chosen charities are those which offer life opportunities for young people.

Entries to the event are now open, with several teams already signed up.

There will be family entertainment areas and free camping for two nights, as well as a host of food and drink facilities.

“It promises to be a fun-filled family day out for fantastic causes,” said Mary Adams of Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club. “We welcome families and all walks of life to come out and support the event, and to continue to drive Pembrokeshire as Wales’ leading county when it comes to fundraising for Welsh beneficiaries.”
