A HAVERFORDWEST driving instructor has pledged to set the record straight on how to tackle the town's roundabouts.

Simon Mottram, who runs Fast-Track Driving School, has started posting videos online, showing the right way to cross the Morrisons and Greens roundabouts.

Simon says it is "only a matter of time until there is a nasty accident" caused by people using the wrong lanes.

"The bad thing is that most people who have 'near-misses' don't even realise they're doing it," he said.

Simon is also petitioning the Driving Standards Agency to bring back the driving centre to the county town.

He says that when tests were conducted in Haverfordwest, if a student had been in the left hand lane travelling towards Morrisons, and had then indicated left onto Sydney Rees Way (going towards Withybush), it would have been an "instant fail".

He believes youngsters, who now learn to drive mainly in Cardigan or Pembroke Dock - where the nearest test centres are - need more experience of driving in the town centre.

As part of his mission to improve local road safety - and help drivers avoid unnecessary accidents - he will be producing a series of videos, explaining how to tackle various local roundabouts and junctions.

And for those who want a definitive answer, it's simple, says Simon.

"If the road sign says the exit you want is 'after 12 o'clock', you should be in the right hand lane."
