Get set for the sight of carts careening down the hill near Fishguard’s Lota Park as the town’s fist Soap Box Derby, takes place tomorrow, Saturday August, 13.

The event, organised by the town’s Round Table, will begin at midday, with scrutiny of the derby carts beginning at 11am.

Thrills and spills are guaranteed, as the course consists of a steep downhill, sharp bends, obstacles and a jump or ramp.

Karts must have three wheels in contact with the ground at all times, have adequate brakes to hold the kart stationary when on a hill, not have any sharp edges and most importantly be bright, colourful and fun.

The Round Table has received more than 70 requests for registration packs.

“We have been completely blown away by the amount of requests, we were expecting four or five,” said a spokesman.

Fishguard & District Round Table are well-known for having organised carnivals, raft races and many other events in the community.

They have organised this new event with the support of Refreshing North Pembrokeshire, Fishguard Town Team, Pembrokeshire County Council and other local community groups.

Entry costs £20 per cart and all money raised at the event will go towards supporting local charities and causes.

The event is scheduled to run until 5pm and will feature other attractions to entertain spectators as well as the races. For more information visit www.fishguardsoapboxderby.com
