RNLI lifeguards have rescued a father and daughter in two inflatable dinghies who were caught in offshore winds off Broad Haven beach this afternoon.

RNLI lifeguard Finn Neauman spotted the pair, a man in his 40s and a 12 year old girl, being swept out to sea in offshore winds at 2:50pm this afternoon.

As thousands of people were enjoying the hot weather on Pembrokeshire’s Broad Haven beach, RNLI lifeguards Sean Williams and Alex Alterwick paddled out to assist the pair on rescue boards and brought them safely back to shore.

Scott Candler, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor said: "A clear and easy way of identifying offshore winds is to look out for the orange windsock flying on top of the lifeguard unit.

"The RNLI asks the public not to use inflatables in offshore winds as it’s extremely difficult to paddle against offshore winds back to shore.

"It’s forecasting fantastic weather across Pembrokeshire this week. When visiting the beach please approach the lifeguards and ask for advice – they’ll be happy to help and give you any tips on how to stay safe on the beach throughout the day."

RNLI lifeguards provide a daily safety service from 10am-6pm on 39 of Wales’ busiest beaches over the summer season.
