Celebrating ten years at the top of the world rankings, The Cory Band brought their consummate skills to St David's Cathedral on Saturday for a joint concert with Goodwick Brass Band.

Cory's place at the top for a record-breaking tenth year was cemented this year when they achieved the Grand Slam of European, British, UK National and the Brass in Concert titles.

Yet conductor Philip Harper was quick to praise Goodwick's extraordinary achievement in being able to compete at Championship level with Cory and the other well-established big name bands.

"It is remarkable that when we last visited St David's in 2012, Goodwick were a Second

Section band," said Philip, "but in just four years they have amazed everyone by winning their way to the top level."

At the end of a memorable programme, the two bands received a standing ovation from the packed Cathedral audience. In their set, Cory demonstrated how they had won their recent title with an evocative tribute to the life of storyteller Roald Dahl.

In a rousing second half, the bands combined to produce more outstanding items with Philip

Harper inviting Matthew Jenkins to conduct the stirring Gordon Langford arrangement of Men of Harlech.
