POLICE have warned Pembrokeshire motorists to be alert and lock their doors following incidents involving men trying to flag down vehicles.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “Dyfed-Powys Police has recently received separate reports of small groups of males attempting to flag vehicles down during the hours of darkness in location on the old Murco unclassified road between Hebrandston and Tiers Cross.

“The first incident occurred on Saturday, January 7. A second incident occurred at approximately 10.10pm on Wednesday, January 25.

“High visibility vehicle patrols are being carried out in the area and members of the public are urged to be alert when travelling this section of the road.

“Consider locking doors when travelling in that area and if attempts are made to stop your vehicle, keep driving as long as it is safe to do so.”

Earlier this month, local mum Jamie-Lee Irving was driving along a back road close to the Murco refinery when a man appeared in the middle of the road.

She instinctively locked the car doors as she came to a standstill when another man tried to force his way into the car.

Jamie-Lee, 30, said: “I stepped my foot down and drove off and the one in the road jumped in the hedge.

“I would have ran him over if he hadn’t moved.

“I was terrified.”

Police are continuing enquires into the incident and have urged anyone with information to call 101.
