A £100,000 appeal has been launched in a community to help a six-year-old boy who is battling cancer.

Morgan Hayes, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma two years ago, is currently receiving treatment for two tumours on his spinal cord.

The parents of the Whitland youngster are now appealing for donations to help access further treatment for the brave Morgan, who they describe as “our six-year-old fighter”.

Writing on the GoFundMe site, Sophie Russell and Ben Hayes explained that Morgan was diagnosed with Stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma - a rare form of cancer that mainly affects babies and young children - in February 2015.

They continued: “He gained first remission this year after a trial in Bristol. Unfortunately, he soon relapsed and the neuroblastoma came back in force.

“He has two tumours on the spinal cord which are being treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, although currently we are unsure if he will gain function in his lower half.”

Sophie and Ben said they have started the Morgan’s Fight campaign “to give our son the best possible treatments from around the world.“

The doctors are not looking for a cure, but to stabilise, but we are fighting for any possible trials or treatments out there that will save him. “All donations are greatly appreciated.”

Morgan, who is currently receiving hospital treatment in Cardiff, is a pupil at Ysgol Llys Hywel, Whitland, where pupils, parents and staff are all getting involved in the fundraising campaign.

“All the pupils are very concerned and want to do everything they possibly can,” said assistant headteacher Caroline Thomas. “We’re pulling out all the stops to raise as much money as possible and bring everyone on board to make sure that Morgan gets the treatment he needs.”

Large purple and yellow ribbon bows have been created by Pembroke florist Quita Jenkins to help the campaign, and are on sale at £2.

They, and other fundraising items, will be available from a stall which Ysgol Llys Hywel is manning at Sunday’s All-Wales Truck and Transport Show in Carmarthen.

Donations to Morgan’s Fight can do be made via www.gofundme/3ywagnc or by calling Ysgol Llys Hywel on 01994 240238. The school will also be pleased to hear from anyone who can help with fundraising.
