NARBERTH’S annual civic week has seen the town busy and buzzing, with yesterday's July 29 carnival parade bringing out the crowds.

The week got off to an impressive start last Sunday, July 23, with a civic parade from the Queens Hall to Bethesda Chapel, where a special service was held.

The mayor, Councillor Ruth Platt and her husband Mike then welcomed civic dignitaries from all over Pembrokeshire for a luncheon at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel.

The gathering was delighted to welcome Civic Week’s president, Wyn Calvin, but the occasion was tinged with sadness at the loss, only a week earlier, of the organisation’s life president, Eric Feetham.

Mr Feetham, six times town mayor and a founder member of Civic Week, passed away at the age of 92.

Narberth Civic Week chair, Councillor Elizabeth Rogers, paid tribute to Mr Feetham, who had only retired from Narberth Town Council earlier in the year.

She said: “I feel that the love and respect Eric had will never again be seen in my lifetime. There are no words to describe the loss Narberth has to bear - the knowledge and wisdom Eric had and shared was immeasurable.”

Civic Week saw, on Wednesday, a baby show and glamorous granny competition and this evening’s crazy town centre pram push which will be followed by Narberth Dynamos hill climb.

Thursday saw the return of the bizarre ritual of worm charming, a family fun quiz and the Aubrey Mason Memorial Ramble, with a pet show and Wacky Races among Friday’s attractions.

Yesterday morning, July 29, saw the Victorian street fair herald the carnival parade at 2pm, when the glamorous Queen Bee and a host of humming bees joined the procession following creative workshops organised by Span Arts’ Cheerful Project.
