UNTIL around 1822 there was no village of Clynderwen: just a mansion and a farm of that name, but the Clynderwen estate, which stood (and still stands) to the east of the present village and may have dated back to the 17th century.

Things have certainly moved on since then as the village became notable for the efforts of the James brothers who, in 1913, were the first men in Pembrokeshire to build and fly their own aircraft.

The first Young Farmers Club in Wales was founded at Clynderwen in 1929, and the introduction of a Calf and Horticultural Show followed.

To their great credit, the YFC members and a host of willing and generous supporters still keep the show going, and it increases in scope and popularity each year on the splendid Parc y Llwyn site.

All volunteers, young and older, dutifully carry out their tasks right down to Lili James who designed the cover of this year's show schedule.

An unprecedented display of vintage farm and road vehicles - probably more than a hundred in total - focused on tractors, some well over 70 years old, restored to pristine condition and ticking over like watches, others in need of a little bit more tender loving care as well as the old, sporty type cars and motor bikes, and a truly remarkable and intriguing display of dairy and other farm memorabilia mounted by enthusiast Gerwyn Williams.

From the very well supported horse and pony divisions, the supreme championship went to the 11-year-old liver chestnut Children's Pony, Barkway Tiara, owned by Sarah Whitfield and ridden by seven-year-old Mason Burrows.

In the cattle section Simon and Sian Davies together with their young sons, Isaac and Elliott, keenly support the dairy section taking the calf championship trophy with their February-born Holstein heifer, Castellhyfryd Solomon Rosina. Marc and Caroline Davies showed the winning maiden heifer and Anthony Gibby the best in-calf heifer.

Betty's Pride, a black Limousin heifer from Kevin Williams, headed the beef cattle entries and a yearling Welsh Mountain ewe lamb, bred by Russell Davies stood out in the sheep section where Sara Edwards was judged to be the best young handler.

Best in the companion dog show was a black seven months old Field Spaniel shown by Janet Griffiths.
