NEARLY 500 trees have been planted in the East Williamston Jubilee Community Park in memory of a popular local resident. The trees - provided by the Woodland Trust - will grow into a wonderful wooded area in the park, which will be known as Graham's Wood in tribute to Graham Doney. Graham had made Pembrokeshire his home for many years with his wife, Mina. He was a great supporter of the East Williamston Community and Hall Association and the Jubilee Park and served as a trustee of the hall. Known as a practical and enthusiastic person, Graham committed his whole effort to everything he was involved in - be it teaching, home renovation, car restoration, computing and sailing. Despite a grey and drizzly morning, a large number of volunteers joined Graham's wife Mina, his son and daughters, their partners and many family and friends, as well as members of the Friends of the Park. The trees, provided through the Woodland Trust's Free Trees for Schools and Communities scheme, included birch, rowan, hazel, crab apple, cherry, elder, willow and many more which will provide food for the wildlife as well as year-round colour. The Friends of East Williamston Jubilee Community Park was established in 2002 with the help of grants, and now provides a unique nature reserve and recreation area in Pembrokeshire. The Friends meet on the first Saturday of each month to carry out maintenance in the 18-acre park, which includes a play area, an exercise area and paths and walks through the natural areas. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome to help with the work, with all equipment and instruction provided.
