THE annual Playday at Scolton Manor is getting £2,000 support from Tesco's 'Bags of Help' community grant scheme.

The popular family fun day, which provides a range of free play sessions and activities for children of all ages, will take place on Wednesday, August 1 to coincide with the national Playday.

Event organiser, Damian Golden from Pembrokeshire County Council, thanked Tesco Haverfordwest and its customers.

"I'd like to thank everyone who voted for Pembrokeshire's very own Playday," he said.

"This fantastic award will go a long way in assisting us to offer another free fun-tastic activity day this August.

"We look forward to seeing lots of families there!"

Hannah Bartlett, Tesco's Community Champion, said: "Tesco Haverfordwest has proudly supported with Playday for the past two years and hopes to continue to help and support in the future.

"Playday benefits the local community and we look forward to it every year."

To celebrate Playday, children, young people and communities get out and play at hundreds of community events across the UK. It's the biggest play event in the UK.

"Play is an essential part of every child's life," said Damian.

"When children are asked about what they think is important in their lives, playing and friends are usually at the top of the list.

"It is vital for the enjoyment of childhood as well as for social, emotional, intellectual and physical development."
