TRADITIONAL sailing vessels of all shapes and sizes can be seen on Milford Haven waterway this week, as the latest Seafair Haven event gets into full swing.

More than 50 sailing vessels are taking part, from the tall ship Johanna Lucretia, down to two-man traditional yawls and luggers, with a fleet of vintage lifeboats also joining in the action.

The main fleet is based at Lawrenny Ferry for the week, running to July 1, with excursions to various parts of the waterway.

On Monday the sailors were accorded a civic reception at Pembroke Quay, while yesterday (Wednesday) they ventured as far as the Old Point House in Angle.

For members of the public wishing to view the whole fleet, including the lifeboats and a flotilla of Celtic longboats, there will be a parade of sail on Saturday, June 30, starting at 12.30pm off Pembroke Ferry and heading downriver to Llanstadwell and back.

Probably the best vantage point to view the action will be Hobbs Point which is being closed to cars 11am- 5pm for a special open day of maritime-themed events.

Craft and local heritage stalls, live music and drama and a range of refreshments will add to the occasion, while the 96ft topsail schooner Johanna Lucretia will be at Hobbs Point from 2pm, with members of the public invited to step aboard for a look round.

Also on display during the afternoon will be the fleet of classic RNLI lifeboats tied up to the pontoon, West Wales Maritime Heritage boats, including a Tenby Lugger, and a pair of Cleddau coracles built by the local Sea Scouts.

Among those providing the live music will be Shooting Counters, while there will also be a performance by Citrus Arts of Shipwrecks, a short piece of dance theatre inspired by wreck and rescue on the Welsh coast.
