A MAN spent four hours in the baking heat working to create the perfect proposal for his girlfriend at a world-renowned beach.

Mathew Adams proposed to his now fiancée Cathy Lloyd at Barafundle Bay on Sunday, June 24, by digging, raking and brushing sand to write out the big question.

Mathew had told Cathy they were going to the beach for an evening walk, but when they arrived she saw the writing in the sand.

“When I got to the end of the beach I saw the writing and turned around and there he was on one knee,” said Cathy.

It was a definite yes from the bride to be, and the couple, both 25, are now starting to plan their wedding.

Cathy did not suspect what Mathew had planned when he left their house in Freshwater East at 4.30pm, saying he was going to visit his parents.

When his work was finished, Cathy’s sister Kristina stood guard over the message in the sand for an hour to make sure no-one could change it while he went to ask Cathy to take a walk.

The couple both work at the Valero refinery, Cathy as a nurse and Mathew as a technician.

Speaking to ITV, Mathew said he loved Cathy and her three-year-old son Harry, and was excited for their life together as a family.

Baranfundle Bay has a special place in the couple's heart, as they had their first date together there a year ago.
