GOLDEN Grove School pupils have been learning about the dangers of plastic in the ocean, and the school hosted its annual sports day spectacular.

Parents and family members of Foundation Phase pupils enjoyed a morning as pupils took part in running races, egg and spoon and balancing.

The pupils displayed individual endeavour and team spirit as they took part. At the final tally of points, it was SWANS house who were victorious.

The afternoon session was time for the Key Stage 2 pupils to perform. Competition in the sprints, skipping and the relay was fierce.

The pupils showed great talent and determination as they took part. Once again it was SWANS who took the honours after a close-run relay.

It was not only the pupils who took part, as both sessions involved the obligatory parents' race, much to the enjoyment (or embarrassment!) of the children of those taking part.

Away from the sports field, pupils from different classes have been enjoying the delights of Pond Dipping and exploring at Pwllcrochan.

Guided by knowledgeable staff they were soon able to identify various aquatic wildlife and draw on their experiences to express what they had learned.

Elsewhere, pupils have been learning about the dangers of plastic in the ocean and on the beaches in Pembrokeshire and further afield, they have also been discovering the range and diversity of coastal creatures.

Pupils were also able to do their bit for the environment by undertaking a beach clean.

Head Teacher Andy Williams said: "There have been a number of different activities taking place over the past few weeks, they are all designed to enrich our pupils' understanding of their local and other environments.

"Our annual Sports Day was a celebration of our pupils' strong sense of team identity and personal endeavour and was much enjoyed by all who took part or watched."
