GREY skies and the occasional downpour did nothing to dampen the spirits of an intrepid bunch of go kart drivers at Fishguard and District Round Table's third annual Soapbox Derby.

A huge crowd of locals and visitors turned up to cheer the daredevil drivers as they took on the twists and turns of Lota Park hill and the dreaded ramp jump.

The soapbox entrants had a warm up run followed by thee timed runs and a final run for the crowd to cheer their best design.

As well as the actual race, the crowds enjoyed stalls and rides in Lota Park.

The event was sponsored by A&E Nichols. The fastest soapbox was Skeletor with Death Trap taking second place and the Red Arrow Grandads coming third. The grandads also took the prize for the best design.

The prize for Derby disaster went to Not So Nooloo. Trophies made by local blacksmith James Eifion Thomas were presented by Round Table chairman Oliver Pearson and sponsor Andrew Nichols.

"What a day! Thrills, spills and even some racing in the wet," said a Roundtable spokesman. "A huge shout out to our event sponsors A & E Nichols for helping make all of this possible."
