YOU can pick fruits from trees scattered around Haverfordwest – that is the message from a group who has planted orchards in the town.

The orchards planted in and around Haverfordwest by the Transition members over the last five years are bearing fruit and the public is encouraged to pick the results of nature’s work this summer.

The apple trees in the Paddocks (by Fleming Way), around Picton Fields and Fortune’s Frolic are fat and juicy as are the plums in Merlins Bridge, at Broad Haven by the YHA and up by Scolton Manor.

Most of the apple trees on the lower Racecourse were planted by Transition, however, there is one strand planted by our German twin town, Oberkirch, two years ago.

There are seven orchards around Haverfordwest have over three hundred and fifty trees most planted by the Transition volunteers.

No orchard, however, will be free of weeds and brambles unless they are regularly controlled.

On Saturday, September 15 at 10am, Transition Haverfordwest is holding a maintenance day.

Anyone who wants to can come along to help, and is asked to bring a pair of secateurs or even a brush cutter.

Meet at Fleming Way (SA61 2SQ).

Please wear sensible working clothes and eye protectors.

There will be other volunteers present and we welcome any offer of help.
