Mr J. G. Abbot

Hill Mountain

James (Jimbo) G Abbot, of Hill Mountain, Haverfordwest, died at Fairfield Nursing Home, Johnston on August 18th.

James was born in Edinburgh in 1925, and lived there before joining the Merchant Navy in 1943 when he was 18.

By the time he was 20, James had already earned the Second World War Star and Atlantic Star for service at sea, including involvement in the preparations for D Day.

In 1945 James left the Merchant Navy and enlisted in the Royal Marines, where he stayed until he was discharged in 1968.

During his time with the marines he served with 41, 42 and 45 commando and was involved in most of the post-war campaigns.

After leaving the services, James worked in London, where he met his wife Frances.

They spent many holidays in Pembrokeshire and settled in the county in 1987.

Their first house was The Old Chapel' in Burton, and during the last four years they moved to Hill Mountain.

James was a keen member of the Masonic Lodge after joining the Cambrian lodge in the early 90's. He became senior warden in February 2006.

In January 1998, he joined the Picton Castle Mark Lodge and became master in 2005. He was also master of the Royal Ark Mariners and a member of Hwlffordd Chapter in Royal Arch masonry.

James leaves to mourn his wife Frances, his son Jim and his daughter Debbie, grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother David, sister Nancy, sisters-in-law Sadie and Pauline and his nephews and nieces in Scotland, Hereford and Surrey.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium and was officiated by Father Graham Lloyd.

There were family flowers only with donations to the Paul Sartori Foundation and to Fairfield Nursing Home, Johnston.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mrs A. M. Thomas

Pembroke

Audrey May Thomas died recently, aged 73.

Formerly of Cold Inn and Broadmoor, she was a loving wife to Kenneth Thomas, devoted mother of Lynette Morgan and cherished grandmother of Danielle Davis.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth. Rev David Faulkner officiated.

There were family and close friends flowers only with donations in lieu for ward ten, Withybush Hospital.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Neil Roberts and Son, of Pembroke Dock.

Mrs P. Laxton

Llanreath

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on August 15th of Patricia Laxton, after a long illness. She was 67.

Originally from Llanreath, she worked for Woolworths and WH Smith for 20 years, before retiring at the age of 51.

Her main interests were voluntary charity shop work and making a small contribution to the WRVS, but her life mainly revolved around her grandchildren and her circle of friends and family.

The principal mourners were Brian (husband); Janice and Judith (daughters); Kirsty, Daniel, Nicholas and Aidan (grandchildren); Bob and Christopher (brothers); Jane (sister); Eileen and Helen (sisters-in-law); Gavin and Mary (nephew and wife); Myra, Steve and family (niece); Bob, Robert and Angela (nephews); Peter and family (nephew), together with close family friends.

The funeral was held at St Johns Church, Pembroke Dock followed by interment at Llanion cemetery, and was officiated by Rev Thelma Barber.

The bearers were Gavin Lloyd, Steve Alford, Robert Bellerby and Peter Bellerby.

There were family flowers only with donations for ward ten, Withybush Hospital to Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock.

Mr A. r. Caswell

Llangynin

Albert Raymond Caswell, of Berth Lwyd farm, Llangynin, St Clears, died at his home on August 23rd, aged 76.

Born in Shropshire, he moved to Carmarthenshire with his young family in 1961, where he farmed for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife Eirlys; Janet and John, Susan and Peter (daughters and sons-in-law); Stephen and Julie, Graham and Sarah (sons and daughters-in-law); Gemma, Paul, Leon, Katie, Rachel, Christopher, Rebecca, Charlotte, Joanne, Michael, Cathy, Robert and David (grandchildren); Yasmin, Lydia and Marie (great grandchildren); Mr and Mrs Aneurin Davies (brother and sister-in-law); Joanne, Michael, Cathy, Robert and David Rodenhurst (cousins); Beryl and Leonard Hudson (cousins); and Joan Balmer (cousin).

Unable to attend were Mary and Allan Ballard (cousin).

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Rev Lewellyn Powell.

The bearers were Brian Reynolds, Geraint Jones, Ian Plumb and Graham Schorfield (neighbours).

Mr W. G. Bevan

Llanelli

William Gordon Bevan, of Ponthenri, Llanelli, died, aged 70, at his daughter's home in Begelly.

He was predeceased by his wife Carys in 1995, and his main interests were Morris motors and Calsonic, Llanelli.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Paula Smith (daughter); Michael Smith (son-in-law); Lorna and Aled Smith (grandchildren); Gill and Gareth Richards (sister and brother-in-law); Myra Bennett (aunt).

The funeral was held at Bethesda Baptist church, Ponthenri, and was officiated by Rev Euro Richards.

The bearers were friends and neighbours from Ponthenri.

There were family flowers only and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Stewart Treharne of E. C. Thomas and Sons, Stepaside.

Mr F Hall

Pembroke

Frederick (Fred) William Hall of Lords Meadow View, Pembroke, died on July 24th.

Fred would have been 76 the day after his death and would have also celebrated 54 years of marriage to Marjorie on his birthday.

Fred, who was born in Halesowen in the west Midlands, moved to Pembrokeshire with his family in 1973 to work for Milford Haven Town Council.

He then became chief building control officer for South Pembrokeshire District Council.

Fred was an active member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and one of the driving forces in getting the new church building from the planning stage to starting the ground work.

Fred was a keen sportsman, playing football at semi-professional level for Halesowen Town and a little rugby in his time in the RAF, and playing golf for many years at Tenby, South Pembs and as captain of Dawn Till Dusk in Rosemarket.

Fred was chairman of Skrinkle Short Mat Bowls Club and the South Pembs Short Mat Bowls Association.

A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral at St Michaels Church Pembroke, on July 30th.

The bearers were David Hall, Robert Hall (sons) Bernie Wheeler (son-in-law), Ben Hall, James Hall (grandsons) and Rogerio Mendoza (family).

Family left to mourn are: Marjorie Hall (wife); David and Robert Hall (sons); Jane Wheeler (daughter); Tracy Hall (daughter-in-law); Bernie Wheeler (son-in-law); Ben Hall, James Hall and Oliver Wheeler (grandsons); Arthur Hall (brother); Pat and Ken Lippitt (sister and brother-in-law), Debbie, Graham, John and Paul and partners (niece and nephews).

Mrs C. M. Laugharne

Milford Haven

Carol Margaret Laugharne, of Albion Street, Milford Haven, died on August 23rd at Withybush Hospital, aged 67.

A native of Milford Haven, Mrs Laugharne worked as an administrator at Greens Motors, Haverfordwest; administrator at the Electricity Board, Haverfordwest; chief clerk at Leslies Department Store, Milford Haven; part-time clerk at Peter Wrights Frozen Foods, Milford Haven; part-time barmaid at the Victoria, Milford Haven; and housing repairs officer for Preseli District Council, Milford Haven, from where she retired.

Mrs Laugharne leaves to mourn: Geoff (husband); Jason and Angela (son and daughter-in-law); Rachel and Trevor (daughter and son-in-law); Danielle and Josh (grandchildren) and Pat John (friend).

The funeral took place on August 29th at Priory Road Methodist Church, Milford Haven, and was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth.

Rev Anthony Gregory officiated and the bearers were Martin Curruthers, Geraint Laugharne, Anthony Rimmer and Paul Jenkins.

Principal mourners were: Geoff (husband); Jason and Angela (son and daughter-in-law); Rachel and Trevor (daughter and son-in-law); Danielle and Josh (grandchildren); Pat John (friend); Dennis and Dorothy, Pam and Dave, Jeanette and Colwyn, Walter and Kitty (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law); Ian Page (uncle) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Unable to attend were Billy Harries (uncle), Ruth Edwards (aunt) and Joan Rees (sister-in-law).

Ms C. A. Scobie

Angle

The death occurred recently of Carol Scobie, of West Court, Angle, aged 56.

A native of Edinburgh, Carol was well known for her Scottish ways of life.

She moved to Angle with her sons in 1992 after falling in love with the village after spending numerous happy holidays there.

It wasn't long before she became a part of village life, participating in many activities, which she enjoyed so much.

Family left to mourn are: Simon and Fiona, Chris and Su-Lin, Nick and Anna (sons and daughters-in-law); Georgia-May and Charlie (grandchildren); along with aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to mention.

A large gathering attended the funeral at St Marys Church, Angle, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth.

The bearers were her sons Simon, Chris and Nick, cousin Gordon and very close friend John.

Floral tributes were from the immediate family only, with donations if desired for Angle Lifeboat to Simon Shiels, 6 River View, Hundleton, Pembroke.

Mrs S. E. Warlow

Haverfordwest

the funeral took place on Friday August 24th of Sarah Ellen (Cissie) Warlow, of Lynnefield Residential Home, Merlins Bridge, and previously of Augustine Way, Haverfordwest.

She died at Withybush Hospital after a short illness, aged 89.

The service at Calvary Church was conducted by Pastor A. Vaughan, followed by interment at Tiers Cross Cemetery.

The mourners were Peggy and Roy (daughter and son-in-law); Ann and Robert (grandchildren); Stephen and Claire (grandson and wife); Gary and Sophie (grandson and partner); Diane (daughter-in-law); Dolly and Vic (sister and brother-in-law); Gwyn and Pat (brother-in-law and wife); and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Mrs Warlow was predeceased by her son John 16 months ago.

Mrs E. J. Lewis

Milford Haven

The death occurred of Ethel (Ecky) Jane Lewis on August 24th at Canterbury House, Priory Road, Milford Haven, aged 95.

A native of Milford Haven, Mrs Lewis' interests included old time dancing, travelling to Spain to visit her great grandchildren, knitting, sewing and attending church.

She also loved to bake cakes for her friends and family.

She spent all her life helping others and was a good Christian woman who was highly respected.

Predeceased by her husband Bobby, Mrs Lewis leaves to mourn: Nigel and Dorothy, Paul and Sue (grandsons and wives); Oliver, Edward, Carla and Nia (great grandchildren); Carol and Reg; Nell and Win (sisters); Edith and Derek, Audrey and Tony (sisters and brothers-in-law); Dorothy (sister-in-law); and nieces and nephews.

The funeral took place on August 30th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

Canon John Davies officiated and the bearers were Nigel Lewis, Paul Lewis, Derek Hodds and Mervyn John.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Canterbury House, 103 Priory Road, Milford Haven.
