Dear Editor — It was reported last week (Western Telegraph, October 1st) that Pembrokeshire’s two Conservative AMs plan to cross the Irish Sea to seek support for the dualling of the A40.
As this superhighway would make it easier for visitors to rush through the county without stopping and spending money, perhaps our AMs will ask the Irish government if they would like to contribute to the huge cost of building it?
Estimates of the cost have more than quadrupled from £70million to £324million and are rising.
Also, a dualled A40 would fuel traffic growth and emissions at a time when every effort should be made to reduce them.
An upgrading of the A40, involving measures such as a roundabout at Canaston Bridge, a Robeston Wathen by-pass and safety improvements, is a much better economic and environmental way forward.
