Police have given an adult caution to a local man caught on CCTV setting light to a post box in Castle Square.

The post box was set alight shortly before 9pm last Sunday, October 19th. A fire crew from Haverfordwest spent around half an hour extinguishing the blaze, using one hose reel jet.

According to the Royal Mail around 40 items of damaged mail were retrieved from the box, six of these were completely ruined, with other items partly burned and affected by water damage.

"We deplore mindless acts of vandalism like this and treat any attack on a postbox very seriously indeed," said a spokesman for the service.

Police in Haverfordwest confirmed today (Monday) that they had tracked down the man using CCTV and witness statements. They said that this man was of perviously clean character and was consequently given an adult caution.
