Macmillan The Pembroke Committee of Macmillan Cancer Support held their AGM last Thursday at the Lamphey Hall Hotel, preceeded by a delicious buffet lunch. The meeting was attended by Kathryn Morgan from the Head Office at Gorseinon, who thanked all members for their hard work over the year and gave an informative update on the West Wales Appeal. This was followed by the presentation of Long Service Awards to Pat Huxter, Ilfra Pippen, Vilma Polehill and Doris Richards.

The meeting was then handed over to president Dilys Hanmer for the election of officers for the year 2009-10. There were chairman - Monica Vanner; secretary Auriol Scourfield; treasurer Bob Butterwroth and press secretary Margaret Phillips.

It was reported that the year 2008-09 had been the best year ever for fund raising and the magnificent sum of £52,547.05 had been raised by the committee. It is a fact that 1 in 3 of us will be affected by Cancer during our lifetime and all the money raised will be used locally to help Cancer Sufferers and their families in all sorts of ways, from nursing care to advice and financial assistance where needed. 95% of the money raised is used to help patients, with only 5% needed for administration.

Anyone who feels they need support should contact the Cancerline on 0808 808 2020 or www.macmillan.org.uk which is open daily from 9am to 8pm and can advise on any aspect of cancer care.
