A fashion student from Pembrokeshire has proved she has got real specs appeal by winning a national competition.

Stephanie Westwood, aged 22, from Kilgetty, has just been crowned Wales' Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year, and will now go on to the international final of the contest in London at the end of October.

She was one of hundreds of hopefuls who entered Specsavers' 13th annual modelling competition, and admitted she was "shocked" to be chosen to represent Wales.

"I love my glasses," said Stephanie.

"They are so much a part of who I am, and have become my favourite fashion accessory."

Stephanie, who has two jobs as well as studying for her degree in fashion design, also made it to the Miss Wales final earlier this year. She recently raised £1,200 for The Joshua Foundation by kayaking 10.5 miles.

Andy Britton, store director at Specsavers in Haverfordwest commented: "We see so many people in the store who look great in their glasses, and the competition gives us the opportunity to showcase those who wear their specs proudly and with style.

"We're thrilled than an entrant from Pembrokeshire has made it through to represent Wales at the international grand final. Stephanie is a really strong contestant, and we wish her the very best of luck."

Amongst judges at the final will be Channel 4 presenter and celebrity stylist, Gok Wan, and the top prize includes a one-year modelling contract. The event is raising money for anti-bullying charity Kidscape.
