Mr. P. E. Sansom Milton

The death occurred of Paul Emerson Sansom, of Milton Meadow, Milton, at Withybush Hospital on November 1st. He was 60.

He had lived in the county since 1985, being born in London. He spent all his working life working for the district valuer and the valuation office. He worked in the London head office and York with a two-year secondment in Accra, Ghana. He retired as a district valuer in the Carmarthen office at the age of 48 due to ill health.

His main interests were rugby, although he enjoyed all sports, books, family and travelling.

He was also a lay preacher until ill-health prevented him. During most of his life he was actively involved in church youth work.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Jackie (wife); James and Charlotte, Gareth and Julia (sons and daughters-in-law); Jacob and Ryan (grandsons); Rachel and Mike (daughter and partner); Chris (mother); Graham, Gill, Karen and Clive (brothers and sisters).

The service was held at Zoar Chapel funeral home and was led by Rev Chris Newton.

The bearers were James and Gareth Sansom (sons); Clive Sansom (brother); Steve Vale, Paddy Wharton and Doug Coultis (friends).

Mrs. E. M. Munday

Camrose

Mary Munday died at Montrose Residential Home, Haverfordwest on November 9th aged 89.

Widow of the late Ronald James, she leaves to mourn son John; daughter Wendy; granddaughters Alexa, Lauren and Rachel; and great-granddaughters Charlotte and Emily.

Mary became a nurse during the second world war and was later the secretary at Haverfordwest Grammar School. During those years she met and married Ron. After John and Wendy arrived she returned to nursing and is fondly remembered for being present at the birth of the babies of so many local families.

Mary had a strong faith, loved life and had a great sense of fun. Her popularity was reflected in the attendance by so many at her funeral on November 16th at Penuel Baptist Church, Roch.

At Mary’s express wish the Revs Hywel Brown, Peter Gwyther, Ron Price and Gwyn Rogers officiated at the service. Gethin Brown, John Hancock, Peter Hancock, Phillip Hancock and Roger Mathias acted as bearers.

Along with family, the principal mourners were Helen Munday, Alan Garnon, Gillian Hancock, Josephine and Wyn Evans; Bernard, Maggie and Helen Evans, Martin Hughes, Glyn, Julia, Christopher and Helen Hughes, Verity, Jonathon and Joy Head and David Gaylor (cousins, nieces, nephews and friends). Gillian Gaylor, Tony Head, and Rosie and Peter Oates were unable to attend.

Rev Anne Rendell joined Hywel Brown and Peter Gwyther to officiate at the interment at Camrose Baptist Church where Mary was laid to rest with her beloved Ron.

Mrs. J. I. Gwilliam

Pembroke

The funeral took place of Joan Iris Gwilliam, of Beaufort Road, The Green, Pembroke, who died at her daughter’s house on September 29th following a short illness, aged 73. Joan was predeceased by her husband Roy in 1998.

A native of Malta, Joan’s interests were mainly her family and taking long winter holidays.

She leaves to mourn Anthony and Diddy, Barry and Trina (sons and daughters-in-law); Marie (daughter); Guy and Wendy (son and partner); Gina and Mark (daughter and son-in-law). Also left to mourn are 13 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The bearers were Gareth Clark, Wayne Clark, Jordan Gwilliam and Luke Gwilliam (grandsons).

Mrs. S. Waters

Haverfordwest

Sandra Waters, of Coronation Avenue, Haverfordwest died at home, surrounded by her family on November 6th, aged 64.

Sandra was from Queensferry, Clwyd. She met her husband Alan while he was stationed in RAF Sealand. Six weeks later they married and from then on they travelled all over the world with the forces.

They had three daughters, Nicola, Claire and Julia. In 1986 they moved from Hong Kong to RAF Brawdy and decided to make this their home, after Alan retired from the forces.

Sandra’s main interest was spending time with her grandchildren and she frequently travelled abroad with her husband to see them.

Left to mourn are her husband Alan; daughters Nicola, Claire and Julia; sons-in-law David, Mervyn and Brian; grandchildren Daniel, Morgan, Charlie, Casey, Leah, Dylan, Jack and Harri; also her two brothers Mike and Frank from Cheshire.

The service was held at St David’s Church, Prendergast and was presided over by Rev Gwyther, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth.

Mr. R. Williams

Roch

Ronnie Williams died at Withybush Hospital on August 29th. He was 81.

The funeral service was held at Keyston Chapel and cremation at Parc Gwyn on September 5th. Officiating ministers were Rev G Rogers and Rev P. Davies. Ronnie’s ashes were interred with those of his wife Elizabeth, at Llanboidy Church.

Bearers were Martin and Michael Davies, Ken Small, Richard Jones, Danny and Joe Davies (nephews).

Principal mourners were: Jayne, Phillip, Oliver and Hayden; Margaret and Derek; Martin, Julie, Emily and Bethan; Michael, Ann, Danny, Tanya and Joe; Ken and Tina; Cathy and Matthew; Richard and Stephanie; Keith and Linda; Helen and Per; Sarah, Pete, Toby and Ben plus other family members too numerous to mention.

Mrs M. M. Rees

Haverfordwest (formerly of Johnston)

The death occurred on October 30th of Mavis Rees at her home in Haverfordwest During a long battle with illness she was cared for by her husband Ken and close family. She was 80.

Born in Nolton Haven, she eventually settled in Johnston, moving to Haverfordwest in her latter years.

A nursing auxiliary, Mavis began her working life at the tuberculosis hospital in St Brides and then at the County Hospital before finally moving to Withybush Hospital, retiring in 1994.

She cherished her family and was a good friend to many. The attendance at the funeral was a testimony to Mavis’ popularity and respect in which she was held.

Reading and knitting were always a prominent part of her spare time along with watching TV.

A short service for family was held at the house led by Mr Mervyn Strand followed by a service at St Thomas Church and interment at City Road Cemetery conducted by Rev Graham Lloyd.

The principal mourners were: Ken (husband); Sandra and Dave (daughter and son-in-law); Anne (daughter); Peter and Mandy (son and daughter-in-law), Mark, Gina, Lianne, Sam and Bethan (grandchildren); Winston and Joan (brother and sister-in-law), Glyn (brother); Rosie and Michael (sister and brother-in-law); and many relatives and friends to numerous to mention.

The bearers were Mark Wysocki (grandson), Michael Barnes, Stephen Arnold and Richard Thomas.

Haverfordwest

The funeral took place recently of Jean Eleanor Mary Thomas, of Greenhill Crescent, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest who died at Withybush Hospital on October 14th. She was 80.

A native of Haverford-west and formerly of the Rhos, she worked as a wages clerk for British Gas and had a similar job at Withybush Hospital for nearly 15 years, before retiring.

Her love of animals was amazing, and she supported many animal charities. Crosswords were another favourite pastime and she was a very knowledgeable person.

She was predeceased by her husband William Frederick Thomas (Bill) in May 2008.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Steven and Sarah (nephew and niece); Stuart and Hilda Cole (cousin); Ian and Fiona Jenkins, Colin and Pearl Phillips, Margaret Roberts, Richard Hughes, Nina and David Williams, Irene Gwyther, Mandy and Allan, Deri and Betty, Tracey Hawkins, Jill, Robert and Mandy Smith, and many more friends and neighbours.

Unable to attend were Nita Wonnacot, Dorothy Codling and Joy Codling (sisters-in-law), Rebecca Hughes, Stephen and Sara Codling.

The service was held at St Thomas Church followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and was led by Graham Lloyd.

The bearers were Ian Jenkins, Richard Hughes, Robert Smith and Colin Phillips.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas, of Hook.

Mr. E. Briers

Pembroke Dock

The funeral took place on November 12th of Ernest (Ted) Briers, of Park Street, Pembroke Dock. Ted had fought his illness bravely but he died at Withybush Hospital on November 6th, aged 84.

The service at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock was led by Rev Thelma Barber and was followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery.

Ted was in the Royal Navy and sailed into the Dockyard, Pembroke Dock on the frigate HMS Lochlomond, where he met and married the late Agnes Colvin. He worked at Manorbier Camp as a gun fitter and later as a fitter at Firth Cleveland.

He was originally from Leicester, but Pembroke Dock became his home. Religion played a big part in his life with the Salvation Army, a lay preacher at Bethel Chapel and in later years he worshipped at St John’s Church.

He met Gwyn Brown at the day centre in Pembroke Dock when she taught him to play bingo and they were later married at St John’s.

The family left to mourn are his wife Gwyn; daughters and sons-in-law June and John Smith, Shirley and Trevor Kemp, Annette and Jeremy O’Mara; their sons, daughters and grandchildren; step-daughter Gwyneth, her husband Tony Smiles and their daughter Sarah-Jane.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son, Bush Street, Pembroke Dock.
