The National Trust will hold a talk and farm walk at Southwood Farm on Sunday where members of the public will get a chance to look around the wildlife-friendly estate.

The estate, donated to the National Trust in 2005, consists of a series of farms on nearly 400 hectares of land stretching from the Newgale Valley to Nolton Haven.

At Trefrane Farm, as part of the National Trust’s efforts to encourage the re-emergence of rare arable flowers, it was decided to sow a ‘sacrificial’ crop of wheat in 2009.

Wheat was sown thinly to allow more light than usual to reach the wild flowers at ground level.

A similar scheme at Treheinf Farm on the St Davids peninsula has seen flocks of 600 birds or more.

The National Trust will hold a talk and farm walk at Southwood Farm at 10.30am on Sunday, December 6th.

Contact Alan Evans, Southwood development officer, on 01348 837860. Booking is essential.
