Senior Cup Semi-final PENNAR ROBINS 0 CAREW 0 (0-0 after extra time, Carew won 4-3 on penalties)

CAREW'S keeper Ian Kerrison pulled off penalty shoot-out heroics, not once, not twice, but three times, to steer his side into the Senior Cup final and crush Pennar Robins' dream of silverware success.

After 120 minutes of pretty uninspiring football, where there were more yellow cards than clear-cut chances, the second semi was predictably decided from the spot.

Early on, it was Pennar who looked the likely victors, with pacey front men, Marcus Lyons and Daniel Scourfield, exposing a sluggish back line.

But despite venturing into the box on numerous occasions, the final pass was lacking from a side, who were missing their top striker, Wayne Brunton, through suspension.

The first whiff of goal came after 14 minutes when Pennar's Andrew Green, did well under pressure to head the ball agonisingly against the upright.

But as the half progressed, Carew crept back into the tie with battling Bullock twins, Paul and Richard, harassing and harrying in midfield.

Their side's best chance fell on 33 minutes as burly striker, Carl Wainwright, shrugged off a challenge to find James Buckle in space, but his shot rocketed over from a tight angle.

The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first as promising build-up play from Carew's number four, Huw Neale and Pennar right-back, Ben Nicholas, in particular, frustratingly fizzled out to nothing.

The afternoon was summed up when, after doing the hard part to chase down Marcus Lyons' saved shot, Pennar's second-half sub, James Stewart, opted for an impossible angle instead of the easy pass.

In extra-time both teams ran out of gas and when a scorching 25-yard shot from Carew defender Hadyn Shapcott, was well saved 10 minutes in, it came down to penalties to prize the two teams apart.

Pennar seemed to have gained the upper-hand when Huw Neale and Ian Sefton hit the woodwork, but three magnificent stops from Kerrison finally sparked the tie into life.

It was then left to Daryl John to confidently step up and calmly curl his side into a St Ishmaels' showdown.

The last time these two teams met in the final was in the 1985/86 season, Carew claimed the silverware, the last time the side has won the cup.
