Junior Union Cup Quarter Final: Cardigan Seconds 5 Whitland Seconds 55

Whitland Seconds marched into a mouth-watering semi final against Narberth at Cardigan and returned with nine tries and a comfortable win.

They were 26 points to the good at half time and were always in control as skipper Kristian Richards controlled matters from fly half and his pack were always on top.

Second row Alan Evans gave the Borderers a third-minute lead after good work by full back Anthony James, with Richards adding the conversion, as he did three minutes later when scrum half Adam Davies kicked through and winger Ross Michael won the race to the corner.

Michael added his second try to put Whitland 19 points ahead after only ten minutes when Adam Davies broke through on the blind side and linked with Matthew Howells and Matthew McMillan before Michael sped away to the line.

Davies was also influential in supplying Kristian Richards with the pass that took him to the posts, adding the conversion before Cardigan battled bravely to deny Whitland for the remaining 23 minutes of the period.

But the Whitland onslaught resumed straight after the break. Second row Rhodri Davies barged over - and Kristian Richards galloped 75 metres for an interception try which he also converted soon afterwards.

Whitland centre Wayne Morris also grabbed an unconverted try before Cardigan finally gained the try their efforts deserved after 61 minutes through centre Dylan Richards.

But the Borderers continued to dominate and moved into the last four with further scores by Adam Davies (converted by Wayne Morris) and Anthony James to round off a good night for the experienced Whitland side.
